Lost Knowing Your Latte from Your Breve?
When it comes to coffee, the choices can be overwhelming. Walking into a coffee shop to place an order these days is not for the feint hearted! What exactly is the difference between a Latte and a Breve?
Latte
A latte, short for "caffè latte," is a classic espresso-based drink made with espresso and steamed milk. Typically, it has a ratio of one part espresso to three parts steamed milk, topped with a small layer of milk foam. This results in a smooth, creamy texture and a mild coffee flavor.
Breve
A breve is a richer, creamier alternative to the latte. It's made with espresso and steamed half-and-half (a mix of milk and cream) instead of just milk. This creates a more indulgent texture and a slightly sweeter taste due to the higher fat content in the half-and-half.
In summary, if you prefer a lighter, more subtle coffee experience, go for a latte. If you’re looking for something richer and creamier, a breve might be your new favourite. What they both have in common is that they begin life as a roasted coffee bean and to get the tastiest coffee, you need speciality coffee beans that are freshly roasted!
